Smooth Dresses

The Foxtrot, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Quickstep and Tango are danced in Smooth dresses.   Billowing dresses show off the slow rotations found in these dances - the back of the dress is equally as important as the front!

Smooth dress designs should accommodate for full skirts, so as not to tangle the wearer or their partner, yet still provides for full leg motion - especially in positions where your leg is between your partner's legs.   Length is especially important, and hemlines are usually accented to draw attention to the skirt.  Dancers learn to work the skirt as they glide across the ballroom floor.   Scarves and feathers may be found as accents on most Smooth dresses.

Latin Dresses

Cha-Cha-Challenged finding the right Latin costume?  Remember that most dances done in competition are in the rhythm category.  That includes dances such as Swing, Cha-Cha,  Bolero, Salsa, Mambo and Merengue!

Unlike Smooth dances, rhythm dances have a lot of quick turns.  Latin costumes are usually much shorter.  They convey the rhythm of the music through accents like fringes.  A short skirt with fringe helps to accent the fast rotations. Arm bands or wrist wraps may finish off the costume.
